ASDA Pizza Counter Review

We all love a Dominos don’t we? But nobody loves the ludicrous prices they now are…. even with a 2 for Tuesday deal it is now a treat to be had once in a blue moon not something you could just think fancy a Dominos tonight like it used to be. Well hold your beers ASDA, yes the supermarket, has kept its pizza counters in many stores, and well for me they are one of the bargains still available. Now just bear with me whilst I explain…

Above is the current deal that I took advantage of last week. It seems to good to be true, but of course you do have to go to an Asda, you do need to bring it home AND cook it, but hear me out an Asda medium pizza in my experience beats a Dominos large in many ways! You get to choose the base style, sauce type, 4 toppings in addition to cheese and then even an oil to finish. Now this is where it is excellent because the pizza is then made in front of you and well, the toppings are great and it isn’t just a small amount either. I chose deep pan, bbq sauce and then meatballs, spicy beef, bacon and red onions finished with garlic oil. 2nd pizza was deep pan, bbq sauce, hot and spicy chicken, pepperoni, sweetcorn and red onions plus garlic oil. Dr Pepper was the choice of drink and a cajun mayo dip finished it off. All made while we waited and was finished in under 5 mins. We finished our shop off and then cooked the pizza when we got home which took about 25 mins with 5 mins to warm up the oven. Now I know not everyone wants to cook a pizza but it is pretty simple as you are only warming/heating it through and of course you get to choose how it is cooked. I chose to make sure it was well cooked with the edges just turning crispy to make sure the copiuos amount of cheese and toppings was piping hot – but each to their own. The better half, for example, has a thin and crispy base and likes it done to a crisp finish!

So there above you can see the actual finished pizza in all of it’s glory. We took advantage of a flatbread garlic bread as well from elsewhere and for me it iwas cooked to perfection. You can see the amount of toppings and cheese that there was, and just to say that the quality was excellent. Now is it as good as a Dominos? Well for me, yes it is – different but as good. The biggest difference is the value proposition. £7 for 2 x medium pizzas, 1.5ltr pop and a dip works out at excellent value. I mean the pizza is coming in at around £2.50 each. That’s about a tenner cheaper than Dominos at the moment…

So what’s the verdict? Well for me, if you have an Asda locally and don’t mind cooking once you get home it is a no-brainer. I’m not saying it is better than the odd Dominos, but for me when you can have 3 or 4 of these for each Dominos and have some cash left over then you’d be foolish to not at least give Asda a chance!

Asda brings great value to the pizza market in the UK. They have also announced they currently have no plans to shelve the pizza counters!

Flavour

Great taste, different to say a Dominos but great nonetheless
Choice of ingrediants
9.5 out of 10
I've always enjoyed the choices you can have, but some will always want more
Price
10 out of 10
For me the price cannot be beaten in the current market and climate. Probably a third the price of Dominos but you do have to cook it yourself.

Pros

Great choice of bases, toppings, and sizes made to order

Good price – the deals are very hard to beat

Can also grab a selection of pre made pizzas if you are in a rush

Cons

You need to go in store to buy

Cooking required when you get home

It's not a Dominos style pizza which is regarded as the market leader in take out pizzas
